Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, currently representing Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing IPL 2025 season, has reportedly received a death threat via email. The threat, which included a ransom demand of ₹1 crore, was allegedly sent by an individual identifying as ‘Rajput Sindhar’. Shami’s brother, Haseeb Ahmed, discovered the email and promptly filed a complaint with the Amroha Police. An FIR has been registered, and the Cyber Cell has initiated an investigation into the matter.
This incident follows a similar threat received by India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, highlighting growing concerns over the safety of prominent cricket figures. Despite the unsettling situation, Shami has continued to focus on his cricketing commitments. After a 14-month hiatus due to injury, he made a commendable return during the ICC Champions Trophy, taking nine wickets in five matches. In the current IPL season, Shami has taken six wickets in nine matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad are expected to provide necessary support and security to Shami as investigations proceed
